April Ross

April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. Ross is among only a handful of female beach volleyball players that be able to do so. Alix Kallineman will be competing with April Ross Tokyo to take home her third gold medal in the next few days. More than that though Ross hopes to win her very first Olympic gold. With her age of 39, it may be her last chances to secure an Olympic gold medal. However, she remains optimistic that most prestigious prizes are within reach. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that he felt confident we could achieve a gold medal, in the event that we perform at our highest. That's why I'm taking a little bit of luck too. Ross is born the 22, 1982, on the outskirts of Costa Mesa California. She resided there with her family. Ross went on to play in numerous activities during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her volleyball skills in the indoors as a prep athlete. In her final game she stood out. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker out setting and hitter on the volleyball court as per her school bio. Her achievements were acknowledged with her being named the 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. Her skills in volleyball earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in 2000. Ross and Klineman began their collaboration in the year 2017, however, Ross was an established participant on the beach for quite a while before. She has won major competitions with a variety of partners. In one of the tournaments, she has become a legend in the world of volleyball. From 2007 to 2013 she teamed along with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Alongside Kessy Ross was a force in the international scene, winning the world championship in 2009. They eventually won an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, beating them to it. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross participated in the Trojans from USC during the college years following her graduation from high school. And her run at USC was one to remember. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year recognition and earned an All-American. In addition, she helped the Trojans advance to into the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she was devastated by a personal tragedy, yet managed to make it back as an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans to the top of the hill and took home consecutive national championships. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend receiving the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was a student of international relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie never got to see her daughter rise to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001. Ross was still a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She is deeply in love with her mother who died. and Margie remains a source of energy for her on the beach as well as in everyday her daily life.
